Rickard A. Nilsson is a 24 year old (or young) versatile artist. As long as he can remember he has been holding some kind of pen, brush or spray can in his hands. Under the influence of youth stupidity he was for many years one of Gothenburgs most active graffiti writer. Together with his crew he painted on literally anything; trams, trains, buses, walls and sometimes even people.
As he grew up and came to his senses he decided to put the cans in the attic and pick up brushes and acrylics and start to paint on canvas instead.
Nowadays, the graffiti, is not very much reflected in his works, but the sense for lines and colors most definitely derives there from.
Rickard is always searching for ways to express himself, whether it´s by means of painting, photography, film, writing or by simply speaking his mind out. Rickard is a young man with some times too much ideas and consideration, according to himself. And his father is not late to agree, and says “Rickard´s problem is that he thinks too much”
When asked what it is that drives him and inspires him his answer was:
“I´m driven by the randomity of the world and fascinated by all surprising meatings which sort of just happen in this crazy world. Whether it´s meating an old lady on the countryside of a land of no-where, or if it´s just meeting a beautiful girl a late night on a club. Life inspires me. Definitely. It´s rather hard to explain, but art is just about communication and communication is everything! Without communication we all die. And we live free to the same degree we can communicate. Unlike a lot of artist who seem to believe we need suffer and agony to be inspired to great art, I rather say we just need to feel, see, observe through communication. And even more, the temptation to communicate, or being prevented to.
Some critics are fast to use the word “pretentious” regarding certain artists, I on the other hand wouldn´t consider myself an artist the day I cannot pretand. Art is about mocking up things, imaginary, and then puting it in the physical universe. Anyone who can dream can create art. And we all dream, don´t we?”
Why, with this blog, Rickard invites you all to what he self describes as the most important part of his life: his imaginary, free, mocked up and fantisized world.
